Bird notes week 17, 2026

Not a lot of bird news this week, but I'll share a few screengrabs from the various live cams anyway.

The kākāpō cam has been down for a few days now. Hopefully it comes back up soon.

The sea eagles are working on their nest a lot these days.

Peanut came home after a couple of days away! He's been back to the nest during the day for at least two days now, but prefers to spend the nights elsewhere—maybe to get away from the owl that attacked him in the nest every night before he fledged.

One of Milda and Zorro's white-tailed eagle chicks has hatched in Latvia, but it's hard to get a good look at it. The other egg doesn't seem to have hatched yet.

Jackie and Shadow's two chicks are doing well, growing heaps every day.

They both seem to be getting plenty of food, despite a little sibling rivalry occasionally.

The albatross chick in NZ is getting some beautiful sunsets, as always.

And the owl nest boxes are all busy—some with new hatchlings, some with a lot of excitement as the owl chicks get ready to leave the box, like these silly-but-adorable tawny owl chicks:
